WHATTT!!!!! YAY and all the other utterances of disbelief. Hope you're tracking the flight for unscheduled stops. I actually know a UPS 2nd officer on MD11's and whilst I have not spoken to him lately believe that he carried my yoke. It came in via Cologne which is where I saw him last, in a restaurant, in the Alt Stadt last September. All useless information but what the heck.

Latest news on the Iris website "Mark H receives notice of planned delivery from UPS" I lie but think I am more excited about this than most.Tongue

I actually got two notifications, as I expect did you - one to say I have a delivery and then another to say there was an 'exception', meaning they will hold onto it until I pay the £93.16 customs charges. The tracking info says it's in Luton (as am I) but they won't let me pay until it's been released to UPS Sad

I actually paid the driver on delivery, they just informed me in advance of the required settlement as it had already cleared customs. It appeared that UPS more or less had control of the shipment all the way including shepherding through customs which is what their charges of around £11 were for if I remember correctly.

Hope you are still standing upright Mark. Great news though.
Here is a link to a Yoke handle like that fitted to Saitek.
Its only Resin but cheap. Hav e a look.

Thanks Les. That does look cheap, although with two possibilities in hand already I think I am sorted for now. I am edging towards using the CH Eclipse handle, which actually feels more solid than the Saitek Cessna one and has a nicer selection of buttons. I already have John's collar to attach to the shaft but today I need to go in search of a suitable mounting plate. I suppose I could use a piece of wood instead of a metal plate but that wouldn't look very professional!

John - where did you drill the holes (and how many) to attach the collar to the mounting plate? It strikes me that getting this wrong will prevent the collar from tightening up Huh

John - where did you drill the holes (and how many) to attach the collar to the mounting plate? It strikes me that getting this wrong will prevent the collar from tightening up Huh

Mark - initially I had the same thoughts about screw positions and was going to drill them both on one side of the slot as far apart as possible to allow the collar to close onto the shaft. I found in practice however that the collar was such a close fit on the shaft, so close in fact that I had to make a small wedge to go into the collar slot which would open the collar sufficiently, such that with the slightest tap on the wedge the collar could be slid onto the shaft. Don't know whether you have your hands on the yoke yet but it's worth checking the fit first before you decide which way to go. Using the method described I found that the collar would grip the shaft on release of the wedge so therefore drilled two opposite holes on either side of the slot and found the compliance in the screws and holes allowed the collar to be clamped to the shaft with only the slightest tightening of the collar clamp screw. I used M4 pan head stainless screws ( because I already had them) to attach the plate to the collar by drilling clearance holes in the plate and tapping the collar, tapping drill size is 3.3mm.
I found that it was possible to buy a single 60mm o/d flat washer which could be used instead of the fabricated plate that I used. It looked to be a stamped part and therefore not dead flat but would still be suitable. I found 60mm diameter to be the optimum size for my application with the Cessna yoke, not sure about any others.
I think I may have mentioned other points in the write up I did on the modification but if there is anything I might have missed or is not clear just ask.

Thanks, that's all very helpful. I will check out your original post too. I don't have the yoke yet - apparently it's still in Canada. The tracking info is confusing, it looks like it went from Canada to Luton and back to Canada. Still, it says 'on time' and promises delivery on Friday!

Yes I remember now, I had the same thing where a UPS notification suggested it was at a local depot except that it was the local depot advising the exception i.e. the customs/tax payment would be due on delivery. It all worked out in the end, and on time.
Going back to the actual yoke, I think you will find performance with the "demo" handle will be pretty awful - it seems to give leverage in all the wrong places and generally creaks and groans with the loads applied. I found the best performance to be with the plugin, in my case XPForce. I know you use FSX so am not sure which way you will go.
It was not until I fitted the modified Cessna handle that the performance was truly appreciated. Having said all that, from watching some of your video appraisals I'm sure you will give it a fair hearing. There are some points I could still be critical about, mainly the shaft bearing strategy but considering value for money it would be unfair to do so.
I'm still looking for a suitable lubricant, I would not risk anything oily or greasy at the moment as I suspect there could be a reaction with the plastic material in the current bearing arrangement and also these attract dirt and other contaminants.
I look forward to your video - I'm sure there will be one.
